The Model 1911 Automatic Pistol was the standard issue sidearm of the United States Army during World War One. Photographic and written evidence confirms that soldiers of the 27th Division did carry the 1911 and it is probable that it was the only weapon of U.S. issue carried by them during combat.

Developed from a series of improvements on John Browning's 1900 design it was accepted into U.S. service in late 1911 and remained in U.S. inventory as the slightly modified Model 1911A-1 until the 1980's.

During World War One the pistol was manufactured by Colt, Remington-UMC and Springfield Armory.

WWI magazines were the so called 'duo-tone' magazines.
The top half was bright metal due to the hardening process for the feed lips.
Some are also found with lanyard loops on the base
